Clark’s Professional Car Care wants you to be prepared when it comes to taking the best care possible of your car’s transmission. These are some of the biggest ways you can be aware of what’s going on with the transmission fluid in your car.
There’s a Transmission Leak
The biggest sign that you might need to at least get your car’s transmission fluid checked is that there’s a leak under the car. If you see even a small amount of transmission fluid under the car, don’t mistake that for being an unimportant issue. Any amount of transmission fluid leaking from the transmission is a problem that needs to be addressed as quickly as possible to ensure that you minimize any damage.
The Transmission Isn’t Responding
The transmission’s job is to transfer power from the engine to the wheels, which then moves the car. When it’s not able to keep up with that job, it hesitates. That ends up feeling to you like a lull between when you press the accelerator and the car actually responds and moves. If the problem is intermittent, you can’t ignore what’s going on. Ultimately, the issue is only going to get worse instead of better.
Or it’s Shifting Rough
Besides hesitation or responding sluggishly, the transmission could shift roughly. That means that the gears sound as if they’re grinding, which is certainly not a good situation for the transmission. Another sign of a rough shifting transmission can be the car jerking when you press the accelerator, even if there aren’t any noises that accompany that sensation.
The Transmission Is Loud
Transmission noise is a big sign of trouble. It can get pretty loud when there’s a problem, too. You shouldn’t ever ignore any noises that seem to be coming from your car’s transmission. Typically if there’s a problem with the transmission, you’ll hear noises from behind you since the transmission is in the rear of the vehicle. Clunking, grinding, and thumping sounds are among the worst ones you could hear.
